NC Concealed Carry

The National Association of Realtors, the North Carolina Association of Realtors as well as the North Carolina Real Estate Commission has made it a top priority to help provide tools and information to ensure real estate agent safety. This is such an important topic that in the 2016 NC General Update Course and Broker-In-Charge Update Course an entire section is devoted to this subject.

The Home Coach School is adding the NC Concealed Carry Handgun Course as an added safety option for the Realtor, their families and friends. This course is one element that is required in order to obtain your individual NC Conceal Cary License. The course consists of 8 hours of classroom training followed by a written test then a shooting qualification on the firing range. The qualification consists of 10 shots at 3 yards, 15 shots at 5 yards and 15 shots at 7 yards. Minimum qualifying score of 70% (28 of 40). After successful completion of the course, students will be able to apply for their NC CCH permit with their respective sheriff departments.

Since 1995, North Carolina has allowed qualifying residents of the state to obtain a permit to carry a concealed handgun from the sheriff of the applicant’s home county such as Wake County Concealed Handgun Permit process The permit is valid for five years unless it is revoked.

We have both male and female licensed instructors who will engage you in the classroom and take care to ensure that the range time covers all requirements and bonus practical skills with safety in mind.

Do I have to be an experienced or expert shooter to take the NC CCH class?

While it is preferred that you have some comfort with a pistol or handgun prior to taking the CCH class, our classes are structured so that we guide even the most inexperienced through proper and safe handling and shooting techniques. The classroom portion which includes the legal aspects of CCH is often new for all students.

Do I need to buy a pistol prior to attending the CCH class?

We prefer for people to train using a handgun they will be shooting normally. We also know that many people borrow a family member's handgun for classes. These borrowed guns can sometimes be poorly fit to the hand of the student and can be problematic. If you do not have a pistol (revolver or semi-automatic) already, contact us and we can assist you with either one of our "class" handguns or provide you with some guidance on one you may purchase at one of the local gun dealers.

Do I have to bring my own targets to class?

We use several target types in our classes. Since we have a specific target we use for CCH qualification, we always provide these.

What do I need to bring to the classroom and the range?

If you bring your own pistol, it must be cased or holstered before you enter the range area. We do not allow ammunition in the classroom for any reason. All firearms will be safety checked by one of the instructors. For the classroom portion of any of our classes, it is suggested you bring a writing instrument, a notepad (you can also write within the books we provide) and for those of you who may get chilled in an inside classroom, a sweater or similar. For the range portion of the classes, we request that you bring your own ear and eye protection. We do have extras of these, if you are unsure what to bring. In class, we discuss products that are useful for the range that you may purchase after completing the training through your local retailer.
